The IC-7300 transceiver, an aesthetically, attractive looking base station, features a 4.3 inch touch screen colour TFT LCD screen with a high performance real time band scope. A first for an Amateur radio transceiver, the IC-7300 uses a RF Direct Sampling System, a technology normally seen in Software Defined Radios. RF signals are mostly processed through the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array), rather than by physical devices enabling high performance real-time spectrum scope in a compact body.

The IC-7300 includes a built-in integrated wide-frequency Automatic Antenna Tuner making ideal for field operation. The radio provides 100 watts output power on HF/50MHz bands and 50 watts on 70MHz (European versions only).

New technology is changing the way receivers are being designed and the IC-7300 is an industry first as an RF, Direct Sampling System is being used in an entry level HF radio. The ability to digitize RF before various receiver stages reduces the inherent noise that is generated in the different IF stages of a radio. We feel the performance of the ‘7300 will far exceed your expectations for a radio considered entry level.

Output power:

100W (25W AM)

RX Frequencies:

Receiver type:

Direct sampling

RF direct sampling system

The IC-7300 employs an RF direct sampling system, where RF signals are directly convert to digital data. Then processed in the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array), making it possible to simplify the circuit construction as well as reduce noise that can mask weak signals.

The new “IP+” improves the 3rd order intercept point (IP3) performance improving the ability to copy a weak signal that is adjacent to either a strong interfering signal. In this process, A/D converter is optimized to reduce or eliminate signal distortion.

RMDR and phase noise characteristics

The IC-7300’s RMDR is about 97dB* (typical value) improving the Phase Noise characteristics by about 15dB (at 1 kHz frequency separation). The superior Phase Noise characteristics reduce noise components for both receive and transmit signals.

* At 1 kHz frequency separation (received frequency: 14.2MHz, MODE: CW, IF BW: 500Hz)

15 discrete band-pass filters

The RF Direct Sampling is protected by an array of bandpass filters. The signal passes through one of the fifteen bandpass filters, where signals outside the passband are rejected. To reduce the insertion loss, the IC-7300 utilizes High Q factor coils.

Large color touch screen

The large 4.3” color TFT touch LCD offers intuitive operation of functions, settings, and various operational visual aids such as the band scope, waterfall function, and audio scope. Like on the high-end rigs, the waterfall shows a change of signal strength over a period of time and allows you to find weak signals that may not be apparent on the spectrum scope. Use the audio scope function to observe various AF TX/RX characteristics such as microphone compressor level, filter width, notch filter width and keying waveform in the CW mode. Image below shows the Audio scope with the waterfall function and the oscilloscope.

Real-Time spectrum scope

You no longer have to choose whether to listen to the audio or have the spectrum scope sweep for signals as the IC-7300’s real-time spectrum scope offers the simultaneous operations found in some of the more expensive rigs! This means you can use either the spectrum scope or the waterfall to quickly move to an intended signal while listening to the receiver audio. The ‘7300’s touch screen introduces a “Magnify” function. So, when you first touch the scope screen around the intended signal, the touched part is magnified. A second touch of the scope screen changes the operating frequency and allows you to accurately tune.

Yaesu FTDX101MP

In addition to the Narrow band SDR receiver, that boasts overwhelming Basic Performance, the Hybrid Configuration Digital Processing with Direct Sampling SDR permits inclusion of the superb Real-Time Spectrum Scope. *300Hz and 1.2kHz roofing filters (Optional)

Narrow band SDR

Crystal Roofing Filters produce phenomenal Multi-signal characteristics

The Down Conversion type receiver construction is similar to the FTDX5000. The first IF frequency is 9 MHz, and a low noise figure dual gate MOS FET, D-quad DBM (Double Balanced Mixer) with excellent intermodulation characteristics, is implemented in the mixer section. Narrow band SDR configuration makes it possible to use the narrow bandwidth crystal roofing filters that have the sharp shape factor.  This achieves the amazing multi-signal receiving performance when confronted with the most challenging on-the-air interference situations.

In addition to IF down-conversion, The Yaesu FTDX101MP receivers implement the YAESU legendary powerful RF Front-Ends, outstanding low-noise Local Oscillators, roofing filters with sharp shape factors, and the latest circuit configurations that we carefully selected for all circuit elements. Consequently, the proximity BDR (Blocking Dynamic Range) in the 14 MHz band reaches 150 dB or more, the RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic range) reaches 123 dB or more, and the 3rd IMDR (third-order Intermodulation Dynamic Range) reaches 110 dB or more.

Narrow band SDR + Direct Sampling SDR

Emphasizes Excellent Receiver Performance and Hybrid SDR Functionality

Digital Processing Generated Real-Time Spectrum Scope

The Narrow band SDR receiver removes strong out of band signals by using a superheterodyne method, with narrow band roofing filters which significantly attenuates unwanted out of band frequency components, and the wanted signals within the passband are converted to digital by a high resolution 18-bit A/D converter and sent to an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) for signal processing.

The  Yaesu FTDX101MP series uses a hybrid SDR configuration that integrates a direct sampling SDR receiver in order to view the entire band status in real time, with the excellent dynamic receiver performance achieved by the narrow band SDR receiver circuit.

By using this hybrid SDR design, the overall performance of the entire FTDX101 receiver system is improved. The Direct Sampling SDR driving the real time Spectrum display with its large dynamic range enables the weakest signal to be observed on the display when it appears and the Narrow Band SDR enables that signal to be selected, filtered and then decoded.

If there is powerful AM station near your location or in challenging operating situations where there are a lot of strong signals in the band from Contests, DX-pedition activities, those signals outside the pass band can be attenuated by the very effective roofing filter in the front stage of the A/D converter. This reduces the signal load on the A/D converter which is a bottleneck from the viewpoint of the entire receiving circuit. Therefore, interference is reduced making it is possible to continue to operate even under such difficult conditions.

Truly Quiet and Clear Reception

Ultra Low-Noise Local Oscillator System; 400MHz HRDDS (High Resolution Direct Digital Synthesizer)

The C/N ratio (signal-to-noise ratio) of the local signal injected into the 1st mixer is an important factor in improving the proximity multi-signal characteristics. The local circuit of the FTDX101 series uses the 400 MHz HRDDS (High Resolution Direct Digital Synthesizer) method that was used in the FTDX5000. This circuit configuration is different from a generic PLL that generates a local signal. Creating the local signal by directly dividing the high frequency of 400 MHz, the theoretical PLL lockup time becomes zero, and C/N deterioration by the lockup time does not occur.

The significant improvement of the C/N characteristic by directly dividing the frequency contributes dramatically to reduce the noise in the entire receiver stage, and also improve the BDR (Blocking Dynamic Range) characteristic in strong signals proximity.

In the FTDX 101 series, in addition to the adoption of the 400 MHz HRDDS, the latest circuit configurations that reduced noise, and carefully selected components are used. As a result, the phase noise characteristic of the local signal achieves an excellent value of -150 dBc/Hz or less at 2kHz separation.

This low-noise, high-quality local signal contributes significantly to the multi-signal and the ultra-close signal proximity (such as a few hundred hertz) characteristics.

Unparalleled -70 dB Maximum Attenuation VC-Tune

Newly developed VC-Tune RF Preselector with high precision stepping motor drive provides outstanding attenuation characteristics

Frequency automatic adjustment RF Preselector VC-Tune

In the Yaesu FTDX101MP series, a next-generation RF preselector VC-Tune further improves the high-performance RF μ (mu)-Tuning system adopted in FTDX9000. Using a remarkable miniaturization design while producing unparalleled characteristics and maximum attenuation of -70 dB.

Newly developed VC-tune circuit drives a variable capacitor (VC) with a high precision stepping motor and achieved remarkable miniaturization over μ-tuning system.

VC-Tune has no annoying steps or switching relays by continuously covering the band with a variable capacitor driven by a high-precision stepping motor following the frequency. The conventional preset method of switching coils and capacitors with relays is eliminated.

When there are multiple strong signals in the band, press the “VC TUNE” key and turn the MPVD (Multi-Purpose VFO Outer Dial) ring on the VFO dial to activate the high-precision stepping motor to adjust the variable capacitor. Fine tune to the optimum point that attenuates the strong signal in the band while operating the VFO dial.

VC-Tune stores the last tuning point for each band, so when broadcast-like signals are periodically transmitted on the same frequency, that frequency can always be attenuated by setting the VC-Tune once.

The Highest Transmit Signal Purity

High-Quality transmission with outstanding phase noise characteristics

Transmit Final Stage produces the Highest Signal Purity

The excellent C/N characteristics provided by the 400MHz HRDDS (High Resolution Direct Digital Synthesizer) used in the local oscillator circuit also contributes significantly to the transmitter section.  In a generic circuit, noise or distortion may occur depending on the circuit configuration and the components, up to the final stage that is producing the transmit signal, even if the local signal is of high quality.  In the FTDX101, a thorough examination of each element up to the final TX stage was made. The clock that divides and distributes the local signal from the 400MHz HRDDS circuit to each block, as well as the FPGA, D/A converter, the final power amplifier etc., and carefully selecting the latest circuit configurations to improve the C/N characteristics of the entire transmitter block. The transmit signal of the Yaesu FTDX101MP is directly generated from a 16-bit D/A converter without passing through a mixer circuit, therefore distortion and noise are significantly suppressed.

As a result, high-quality local signal characteristics are maintained without degradation to the final stage, and the transmission phase noise characteristics achieve -150 dBc/Hz at 2kHz separation.

The Yaesu  FTDX101MP transceiver user will appreciate the finest performance with a high-purity transmission signal.

Even with a Large 7-inch Touch Panel Display, the panel layout emphasizes quick visibility and operability as a First Priority.

ABI (Active Band Indicator)

ABI is arranged as the band select key in the horizontal a row at the top of VFO dial.

When the band selected as MAIN Band, the LED indicates in white, and when the band selected by SUB band, the LED indicates in blue. At the status of transmission, the LED turns red so you can instantly confirm which VFO is transmitting.

In addition, since the orange LED lights up when you press and hold the band key, you can use it to display a band that has an antenna connected or to display a band operated in DX-pedition mode as a memo. Below the band key is a key for selection between transmission and reception of the MAIN and SUB band, and below that, there is a switching key for using the VFO knob on the MAIN or SUB tuning, so, even when the operating split using both MAIN and SUB bands at the same time, the band control can be performed smoothly, and so tuning the wrong band by mistake is reduced.

MPVD (Multi-Purpose VFO Outer Dial)

The MPVD is a large high-grade aluminium multifunctional ring around the outside of the VFO dial. The ring allows control of SUB VFO frequency dial, VC-TUNE, Clarifier and C/S (custom select function). The MPVD is a handy dial that allows you to adjust important functions in ever-changing HF communications without taking your hand off the VFO. The ring has the traditional Yaesu outstanding smooth and solid feeling when used.

Icom IC-7610 HF Transceiver, Whether it is poor band conditions, or battling to pick out a call in a large pile-up, faint signals have always been a challenge for DXers and Contesters around the world. The difference between putting the QSO in the log or having to try another time is the capability of your receiver. One key factor is the RMDR capabilities, the ability to pick out a faint signal in the presence of stronger, adjacent signals. The IC-7610 introduces dual RF direct sampling receivers, achieving 110dB RMDR, rivalling that of top-of-the-line transceivers.

Innovative RF Direct Sampling System Introduced with the IC-7300, Icom’s RF Direct Sampling System has made SDR performance affordable. Direct Sampling means incoming RF signals are digitized by the Analog-to-Digital Converter and immediately processed by the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array). This process dramatically reduces distortion that naturally occurs in the various mixer stages found in traditional superheterodyne receivers.

Astonishing 110 dB* RMDR The RF Direct Sampling system in the IC-7610 is capable of 110 dB RMDR. This performance gives you the ability to pull weak signals out of the noise of strong adjacent signals. There is a difference you can hear as the desired signal comes out of the pileup! * Representative value at 2 kHz frequency separation (Received frequency: 14.2 MHz, Mode: CW, IF BW: 500 Hz)

Customized VCXO Is Used for the Master Clock Reducing phase noise in a receiver is always a challenge as it is a natural characteristic of a receiver. The master clock of the IC-7610 utilises a low-phase noise VCXO (Controlled Crystal Oscillator), combined with Icom’s years of technical expertise to design a common power supply for the VCXO and FPGA, yielding an ultra-low phase noise. Also, a 10 MHz reference signal can be input to the IC-7610 for higher precision.

Independent Dual Receiver Whether listening to both sides of a rare DX station running split or looking for a multiplier on a different band or mode, the dual receivers in the IC-7610 have you covered. Two separate DIGI-SEL preselectors, and two separate Band Pass Filter networks, feed two independent A/D converters into the FPGA.

DIGI-SEL for Main and Sub Bands The DIGI-SEL preselectors are RF filters with sharp, narrow passband characteristics preventing Analog-to-Digital Converter overflow from large out-of-band signals when sampling the RF signals. Additionally, the third and higher-order IMD components are reduced. This is ideal when strong signals are received in a contest pile-up or from broadcast stations on adjacent frequencies or bands.

High-Quality Speaker Sound To finish out the receiver is an internal speaker cabinet. The cabinet is tuned to reproduce clear, natural-sounding audio, and is insulated from the radio chassis to prevent noise from vibration and panel resonance.

Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) for Clean TX –70 Breaking with the tradition of mixing a carrier signal with a local oscillator, a Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) method is used to generate the required signal from the Digital-to-Analogue Converter. The chart to the right shows the difference made by this new design.

Built-in Automatic Antenna Tuner The built-in automatic antenna tuner memorises its settings based on your transmit frequency so that it can recall the tuning setting when you switch operating bands. The emergency tuner function* enables you to work for short periods of time with an antenna with a high SWR. * Output power is not guaranteed and power may be reduced. 7-inch Colour Display with Touch Screen Function The large 7-inch colour display shows various operating and setting information at a glance in high resolution (800 × 480 pixels.) The display shows multiple features, for example, the dual spectrum scope aligned vertically or horizontally, simulated analogue meters and RTTY, PSK31/63 mode decoded messages.

Dual Receivers, Dual Spectrum Scopes The IC -7610 provides dual reception, on different bands, as does the high-speed, high-resolution spectrum scopes. Whether watching for a band opening, working a rare DX station operating split, or searching for a multiplier, the ability to watch each receiver separately allows the operator to concentrate on pulling in a weak signal. The scopes provide class-leading performance in resolution, sweep speed and a 100 dB dynamic range. To navigate around the band more easily, connect a PC mouse to the USB port for point-and-click tuning of the receivers.

Audio Scope Flexibility The Audio Scope screen shows both an FFT scope with a waterfall along an oscilloscope for both transmit and receive audio. This makes it easy to monitor AF characteristics such as microphone compressor level, filter width, and notch filter, and in CW, you can monitor received CW keying waveforms.

Touch Screen and Multi-Dial Knob for Smooth Operation The combination of the touchscreen and the multi-dial knob offers quick and smooth operation. When you push the multi-dial knob, menu items are shown on the right side of the display. You can select an item by touching the screen and can adjust the levels by turning the multi-dial knob.

Remote Encoder for Second VFO Knob The optional RC-28 remote encoder enables you to add an external Sub dial for controlling the Sub-band. Main band and Subband can be switched with the F1 and F2 buttons and can be controlled with the RC-28. The LED above the F1 and F2 buttons turns ON to show the active band.

DVI-D Connector for an External Display Connection The IC-7610 has a DVI-D connector for an external display. Operating frequency, setting information and spectrum scope can be observed on a large external screen.

SD Card Slot and USB Port for Saving Data When used with an SD card or USB flash drive, various contents including firmware updates, memory channels, captured screen images, and other personal settings, can be saved and loaded. TX/RX audio, voice memories, RTTY/CW memories and RTTY decode logs can be saved and used on the SD card.

I/Q Signal Output The IC-7610 enables you to output I/Q signals from the USB connector. They can be used to analyse a spectrum range or to decode signals by decoder software on a PC. *This function will be provided in a future firmware update

Simplified Remote Control for RS-BA1 Whether from a remote part of your home QTH, or in a remote location somewhere around the world, the RS-BA1 software enables you to operate your IC-7610. Not only can you control the radio settings and have both RX/TX audio paths, but you are also able to display a single-band spectrum scope with the waterfall. With the addition of an Ethernet connector, a base station computer is not required.
