ACOM 2000A

Cutting-Edge Technology Enhances a Classic Design

At the core of the ACOM 2000A is a classic HF amplifier design, employing two Svetlana 4CX800A (GU74B) high performance ceramic metal tetrodes operating in a grid-driven configuration. This design was chosen for its inherent stability and extremely low production of spurious emissions. ACOM coupled this tried-and-true configuration with today’s most advanced digital control technology to create an amplifier with outstanding performance, features and reliability.

Clean Signal

Grid-driven tetrodes, cathode negative feedback, excellent transceiver loading (typically below 1.2:1 input VSWR), and regulated SG voltage result in an extremely low distorted output. Measured typical IMD are – 40dB (3-rd order) and – 45dB (5-th order).   Classical Pi-L network, all-air coils (no ferrite),  and carefully designed layout of the output tank offer typical harmonic emissions as low as – 55dBc (second) and below – 70dBc (third and above). Thus, probability of QRM, BCI or TVI  is dramatically minimized.

Fully Automatic Tuning

The automatic tuning features in the ACOM 2000A represent a real breakthrough in HF amplifier design. Never think about an ATU for VSWR up to 3:1 (2:1 on 160 m). Matching the actual antenna impedances to the optimum tubes load is completely automated. Typically 1 second and no skill is required.

By completely eliminating time-consuming tune-up procedures, the ACOM 2000A has gives contesters a real edge. It is now possible to change bands without a moment’s thought. You can work every multiplier spotted using software point-and-shoot – regardless of band. And always know the amp is properly tuned and operating safely. The amplifier follows your transceiver’s band and frequency automatically in less than a second. No special cables are required. Just a dot on CW or “Ah” on SSB are enough.

The ACOM 2000A breaks every amateur band into multiple frequency segments. The user can store up to ten (10) sets of tuning adjustments for every frequency segment – allowing individual settings for multiple antennas on each band. VSWR can increase considerably when an antenna is operated away from its resonant frequency. Unlike other amplifiers on the market today, the ACOM 2000 output matching network allows the amplifier to operate at full power, even with VSWR as high as 3:1 (2:1 on 160m).

RCU Size: 167 x 130 x 25mm (6-2/3″ x 5-1/8″ x 1″)

Only the Remote Control Unit needs to be placed near the operator. The main unit can be installed up to 3 meters (10 feet) away. RCU features include: amplifier status shown on LCD display, control of all functions, measuring and/or monitoring of the 20 most important parameters, on-board  technical assistance, troubleshooting suggestions, record of power-on hours, password provided.

Easy Maintenance

The protection system makes damaging the amplifier a difficult job. Information on the 12 most recent protection trips is stored in an INFO BOX for remote diagnostics via phone line, PC, and Internet.

 

RS232 and Network

All functions are accessible from a PC via RS232 serial port. Local network  may include more than one amplifier / antenna unit set working in a system.

Easy to operate

The TRI is a powerful tuning aid that, together with the automatically controlled input attenuator, helps the operator to quickly and precisely match the antenna impedance to the optimum tube load impedance (5-10 seconds typically). The auto-operate function (when enabled) maintains the amplifier in the OPERATE mode for you, thus avoiding unnecessary manual operations.
No antenna tuners
No heavy outboard antenna tuners required for antenna VSWRs up to about 3:1.  Your amplifier will enable you to change antennas virtually instantaneously and allow you to use your antennas over wider frequency ranges.
User-friendly

An  amplifier  that  is  both  user-friendly  and  that  looks after itself.  It is designed to safely withstand up to 300W reflected power, up to 100 milliseconds duration of drive spikes, drive RF “tails” after a PTT or KEY release, operator’s inadvertent tuning errors etc.  The amplifier also will not cease to function with a “soft” AC mains and will deliver more than half power at only 85% of nominal mains voltage. It can withstand voltage drops (down to zero Volts) for up to 10 milliseconds and can tolerate 15% mains voltage spikes, which is especially important on Field Day, during DXpeditions, and at portable operating events where emergency power is relied upon.

Three antenna outputs are selectable using a push-button on the front panel.
Easy maintenance
Data  regarding  amplifier  internal  status  is  stored  in  a nonvolatile memory for 7 of the most recent auto protection trips. This information can be forwarded to your dealer for diagnostics.
Virtually silent QSK
The  input  bypassing  and  vacuum  antenna  relays  are virtually  silent  even  in  the  CW  QSK  mode  thanks  to specially designed mounting hardware.
Broadband input matching
Resulting in very good load to the transceiver over the entire spectrum 1.8-54MHz.
Single 4CX1000A tube
Uses a ceramic and metal radial beam tetrode with plate dissipation of 1000 W which is specially designed for class
AB1 RF linear amplifier operation.
Tube protection
Permanent monitoring and protection of plate and grid voltages  and  currents,  as  well  as  of  the  exhaust  air

VFD comment display

All amplifier status indications are explained via detailed text displayed on the dot matrix, high brightness vacuum fluorescent display (VFD).  The upper line on the VFD always reads peak forward power.  LED indicators are provided for:  OPERATE mode, attenuation-on, transmit, selected antenna output , and ON/OFF conditions.

This new addition to the range has an even more professional and versatile case made from ABS and includes an “o” ring seal between the two halves of the body.

The software has been enhanced and tunes even faster. Usually it takes about 2 seconds for the first tune and a few 100ms when tuning from memory.

The processor unit is enclosed in a metal case for better shielding.

Pi matching network.

CG 3000 is designed with Pi matching network.
It provides more wide tuning range and covers whole HF band.
Using 9 solid inductors, the total inductance ranges from 0 to 32 uH.
They can give 255 combinations with a resolution of 0.25 uH.
5 capacitors are used at the input side, the total capacitance ranges from 0 to 6300 pF with 31 combinations.
Other 5 capacitors are used at the output side, the total capacitance ranges from 0 to 755 pF with 31 combinations.
So totally they give 245055 tuning combinations.

The MFJ-269D analyser covers 0.1-230 and 415-470 MHz.

The additional low-end range provides coverage for the two new longwave amateur bands. It features a large easy-to-read two line LCD display and side-by-side meters. The built-in CoaxCalculator calculates coax line length in feet given coax length in electrical degrees and vice versa for any frequency and any velocity factor. This is useful in building matching sections and phasing lines. The new 12 bit A/D converter gives excellent accuracy and resolution.

The fully portable MFJ-269D has a built-in NiCad/NiMH charger circuit, battery saver and low battery warning. It has an N connector plus a free N-to-SO239 adapter is included. 4 x 6.75 x 2 inches (103x173x60mm).

Diamond SD-330 HF Screwdriver Mobile Antenna 3.5 – 30MHz

The antenna comprises a base loaded electrinically tuned “screwdriver” antenna with a flexible whip mounted on a spring coil. The total height is 1.7m approx depending on frequency. From the antenna is a detachable DC cable with a total length of approx. 22ft of DC feed cable. This includes a short detachable length at the car end which comprises a remote up/down press button unit and a cigar plug. The current drawn is just 100 mA.

Diamond SD 330 HF

Tuning is achieved by pressing either the up or down button and listening for the signals to peak in strength. This is very noticeable and gets you very close to minimum VSWR. Any fineup/down adjustments can be carried out with the radio’s aVSWR meter. The antenna has a large diameter base coil and can be tuned to any frequency in the range 3.5 – 30MHz.
